Dear families,

*PROUD TO BE...*

There has been a wide variety of school dress today in school. Some wonderful and colourful traditional costumes which have brightened up the school. Our families in the Old Oak EYEC from 6 months also joined in and shared examples of their traditional dress which reflected their heritage. Thank you for taking part in this. We have had another author in school again today as part of our Black History Month events. We also had the English Chamber Orchestra working with Year 4 on Wednesday and Lydia did some art work with the children as well. Please see attached what the school nursery children are proud to be. proud to be.png

*INFLUENZA VACCINATION FOR CHILDREN*

All children from reception to year 6 have been offered the flu vaccination in the form of a nasal spray again this autumn. An information leaflet is going out today to all parents. While we recommend that your child receives the vaccination, I want to make you aware that it does contain gelatine derived from pigs. An alternative injection without the gelatine is available from your doctor or the telephone number on the form. Please return the form after half term.

*CLUBS*

We are beginning to offer a small number of clubs again after school. Mike from QPRFC is running his multi-sports sessions again after school and there is  also a Money Sense course for the older children. Some can benefit from catch up literacy and some can learn a new language. Please look out for the flyer coming home today. We are charging £15.00 a term for these clubs. This equates to £2.00 a session.

Please note that Money Sense club will now take place on a Thursday and NOT the Wednesday as stated on the Flyer.

*ABSENCE AND PUNCTUALITY*

Absence has been very high again and I am concerned about this as we approach winter. Of course, you as a parent know when your child is not fit for school, but there is a pattern of a minority of families with poor attendance. This affects their progress at school and friendships, and is disruptive for the teacher. Also, during an inspection, high absence will work against the school and the judgement we receive. Please try to ensure that your child is in school if they are well. School begins at 8.55am sharp. Gates close at 9.00. The gate to the school Early Years closes at 9.05am. If you are later than this, please bring your child to the main reception in Stokesley Street and wait with them there until they are collected at 9.20am

*JEWELLERY*

Can I remind parents that jewellery - necklaces, rings and bracelets - is not allowed in school.

*INSET DAY FOR SCHOOL ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 1st*

Staff training means that the school is closed for children on that day. School begins again on Tuesday 2nd November. The Old Oak EYEC will be open as usual for children on the 1st November.

Have a good half term!

Best wishes
