Dear Families,

It's been a busy week for the wider curriculum in school with Science Week and the Children's Parliament. Look below for more information. Can I also remind you that next Friday 1st April, is the last day of term. School finishes at 1.45pm on that day for the school children. Those at the Old Oak EYEC will close at the normal time.

*CHILDREN'S ENVIRONMENTAL PARLIAMENT*

Yr 6 have been involved in the Children's Environmental Parliament which involves 10 schools from both Hammersmith & Fulham and Kensington & Chelsea. The project involved researching a local environmental concern and working as a team to think of solutions to such local problems and take action. The children choose the Scrubs and the focus was making it a more habitable place for the many species of birds who live there.

They met with LBHF Climate team who help to create a really impressive presentation. 8 children were selected to present and compete against the other local schools and The children won the Environmental Award!

After taking part, India said "This project has made me think about working in parliament when I am older"Shyanne added " It made me feel important".

The children spoke to the other children at school and advised them to definitely take part in Children's Parliament when they reach Yr 6!

*SCIENCE WEEK*

The children have been able to enjoy a range of different activities this week connected to space and forces, which I hope has inspired some to develop their learning in science and engineering as they get older. The year 5 children had an online session with Helen Sharman, the first British person to go into space. She made a presentation on "What Grows in Space?".  Every child in the school, including our younger children from the Old Oak EYEC, visited the planetarium on Thursday to study the constellations, planets and the sun. The people behind the large HS2 development at Old Oak Common have also supported the week with workshops for children as have Imperial College. It has been an action-packed week of science and I hope it has left an impression on the children. Many thanks to Ms. Khalil and Ms Crane for organising this.

If you would like to be a parent governor, and be a supportive and critical friend for the school, then please contact Mr Brown or let another member of staff know. Many thanks
