We do not want Covid in the school

date posted: 24/09/2021

Dear families,

*ABSENCE*

I have spoken to several families and staff about the high rate of absence in school at the moment. We have to deal with pupil absence in a sensible way. Our starting point is:

  1. We do not want Covid in the school
  2. You do not want Covid at home.

There are several interpretations of symptoms and we must be careful but sensible. I have a duty of care to all staff and children. Therefore we must work together on keeping Covid out of our community. I will send out further school guidance early next week which I hope will make things clearer to all.

*BLACK HISTORY MONTH*

Next month is Black History Month at Old Oak, and we will be celebrating together as a school family. We have two authors coming in to visit - Ifeoma Onyefulu and Venessa Taylor - and they will doing assemblies, workshops and book signings, information about purchasing books to be signed will come home next week. We also have Tie-Dye Drama coming in, and they will be doing a drama workshop with Year 1 based on the story of the Leopard's Drum and DanceWest will be coming in to work with the Reception children in a dance workshop. We will also be welcoming Lydia back to work with all of the children on a collaborative piece of art based on traditional patterns and prints. Finally, we will be hosting Baroness Young of Hornsey OBE. She is a crossbench member of the House of Lords, who was born in Kensington, and will be speaking to the children about her life and achievements.

We will also be running a raffle during October to raise funds to support the projects we have organised. Prizes include a voucher for half term art workshops at art-K in Chiswick; a voucher for brunch for 2 at Burnt Provisions on Askew Road; a voucher for a meal for 2 at Grill Shack and Tiki Bar on The Vale; vouchers for Bando Burgers in East Acton; vouchers worth £15 for no drama on Old Oak Road and much more! Information about raffle tickets will come home next month - the draw will be at the end of half term.
