Welcome to Year 4 Magnolia Class!
Welcome back to a new year and a new term! The children have settled in well and are already working hard towards their Old Oak Goals; collaborating and communicating positively with each other, thinking about their work and how to move their learning forward, as well as developing resilience and showing how adaptable they can be with the changing curriculum, and welcoming new members to our school and class communities.
In Maths, we are working hard this term on our multiplication and division facts. We are finding new ways to remember our facts and looking for patterns in the multiples to help us recall them at speed. This will help us to be efficient when we are applying our multiplication and division knowledge.
In English, we have started a new book – Ice Palace. We are learning about how to survive in the extreme cold and linking the themes of the book with texts we have previously read and know well. We have already written some poetry based on the book and will be working on metaphor, personification and alliteration over the Spring Term.
We continue our weekly PE sessions with the QPR coach. We are still working on our football skills, but we will also move on to thinking about what happens to our bodies before, during and after exercise. This term we are very lucky to have cricket sessions with a specialist coach from Platform Cricket. We have got off to a great start with Coach Matt and know that we are going to really enjoy this opportunity to learn more about the sport.
In IPC we are so excited to be learning about Solids, Liquids and Gases, especially as we are completing lots of investigations into changing states of matter. We have already made butter from cream and ice cream from milk! We can not wait to make mousses, milkshakes and other dairy products, as we watch solids become liquids and vice versa.
