Welcome to Year 3 Hornbeam Class!

Hornbeam class have returned from the Easter holidays, looking taller and with a mature attitude, engaged and ready to learn.  Last term, the children explored the poems of Michael Rosen and created their own biographies about the beloved British author and poet.  This term, they will use this information to share their knowledge with their families as part of the Year 3 class assembly.

Along with preparing for their assembly, the children are exploring their new Power of Reading text in English, Lob by Linda Newbery.  Like the character Lucy from tthe book, Hornbeam class will be observing plants and flowers and exploring the requirements plants need for life and growth as part of their learning in Science.  This should mean trips to Wormwood Scrubland, as long as the sunny weather holds out.

In Maths, the children continue to revise their learning from last term with lots of practise of their multiplication and division facts, especially three, four and eight times tables.  They are currently working hard learning about fractions, building their confidence in their understanding of the denominator and numerator and using their knowledge to compare and order fractions.  Hopefully, they will be able to use their knowledge of measure to compare and find the difference between measurements as they monitor the growth of their bean plants.
