Welcome to Year 1 Acacia Class!
This is a very important term for Acacia Class as we will be preparing the children for the Phonics Screen Check in June. The children are encouraged to practise and read as much as possible to help them.
In English, our texts will be based on ‘One Day on Our Blue Planet - In the Savannah’ by Ella Bailey, ‘Pattan’s Pumpkin: An Indian Flood Story’ by Chitra Soundar and ‘The Jolly Postman’ by Janet and Allan Alhberg. We will continue to explore these books by using our inferring skills by looking at the illustrations. We will learn how to write information texts (fact files), explore poetry and find how these stories can be linked to nursery rhymes and traditional tales.
In IPC we will become Scientists as we will investigate our in our unit ‘Green Fingers’ and we will learn about what parts of a plant as well as recognising plants that we find in our local area. Our trip to Holland Park Ecology Centre will also link to this.
We will also look and study Geography through our ‘Hooray!...Let’s go on holiday’ looking closely at finding out about the places people go to on holiday. Learn how the hot and cold areas of the world are related to the equator and study the physical and human geography of St Ives in England and Queensland, Australia.
In Maths we will be start begin to learn Multiplication and division, Fractions, Place Value (within 100), Position and Direction and Time.
This jam packed term will be full of fun learning as we continue to collaborate, communicate and show how resilient we can be when we come across challenges.
