Welcome to Year 2 Chestnut Class!

We are looking ahead to a busy and exciting term, building on a fantastic end to last term. The children did themselves incredibly proud by putting on an excellent performance in the school nativity. Their confidence, teamwork and enthusiasm shone through, and it was a joy to see them perform so brilliantly. We would also like to thank all our families for their continued support with costumes, rehearsals and for joining us to celebrate this special event.

This term, we are especially excited about our first-class trip. We will be enhancing our learning about the Great Fire of London with an interactive visit to Gunnersbury Park Museum, where the children will have the opportunity to bring their historical knowledge to life through hands-on activities and immersive experiences.

In English, we have been thoroughly enjoying the story Zeraffa Giraffa. The children have engaged enthusiastically with the text, exploring characters, settings and storytelling techniques. We are looking forward to performing this story during our first-class assembly later in the term, giving the children another opportunity to showcase their growing confidence and speaking skills.

In Maths, the children have been developing their understanding of 2D and 3D shapes, learning to recognise, describe and compare their properties. We are also beginning one of our larger themed topics: multiplication and division. Through practical activities, discussion and problem solving, the children will build strong foundations in these key areas of learning.

It promises to be a term full of curiosity, creativity and memorable experiences, and we look forward to sharing the children’s progress with you along the way.
