What a fantastic start to the new school year! After a long and exciting summer break, the children in Chestnut class have returned full of enthusiasm, energy and excitement for all the learning ahead. It has been wonderful to see everyone settling back into school routines and enjoying being together again.

One of the first things we did as a class was to agree our Class Charter, thinking carefully about the expectations and behaviours that will help us to learn and grow together. Our charter reflects the Old Oak values and will help guide us throughout the year.

In Maths, we have begun our first unit of the year, Place Value. We are learning to understand the value of each digit in a number and are enjoying using practical resources and lots of mathematical thinking.

In English, we have started our first Power of Reading text, Handa’s Surprise. We are already enjoying exploring the story, its characters and setting, while developing our reading, writing and vocabulary skills.

Our Connected Learning Geography topic, Who Am I?, has given us the opportunity to find out more about ourselves – including our skills, where in the world our families are from, and what makes each of us unique. Inspired by the incredible artwork of Giuseppe Arcimboldo, we have even created our own self-portraits using images of fruits and vegetables!
