Welcome back to Chestnut Class!

The sun is finally peeking through the clouds, and the warming weather marks the beginning of a very special chapter: our final term in Year 2. There is a sense of excitement in the air, mixed with a little bit of disbelief—the children (and the teachers) can hardly believe how quickly the year has flown by.

Our Summer Focus:

The summer term is always a highlight of the school year. As we head into the home stretch, our focus is on celebrating everything the children have achieved while looking confidently toward the future.

In maths, we will be diving into one of our final major topics of the year: Fractions. This can be a tricky concept to grasp, so we encourage parents to support this learning at home. Whether it's cutting up a pizza or sharing out a bag of treats, discussing halves, quarters, and equal/unequal parts in a real-world context makes a huge difference!

In our English lessons, the children have begun enjoying the world of poetry. We have started hearing and performing works from well-known poets, including Michael Rosen and Roger McGough, and the class will soon begin the creative challenge of writing their own. Following this, we will embark on our final Power of Reading book for Year 2; the moving and beautiful story of The Robot and the Bluebird.

In IPC, we are launching our new topic, Live and Let Live and we are hoping to spend a little more time outdoors to bring this unit to life—let’s hope the sun continues to shine so we can explore our environment to the fullest! Over the course of this summer term, we will be working hard to prepare the children for the jump to Year 3 and Key Stage 2, ensuring they feel brave, capable, and ready for the new adventures ahead. It promises to be a term full of curiosity, creativity and memorable experiences, and we look forward to sharing the children’s progress with you along the way.
