Welcome to Year 2 Chestnut Class!
The children have returned to school full of enthusiasm and energy, eager to learn and ready to embrace all the new challenges that Year 2 will bring. They are beginning to settle into their new routines and are gaining a clear understanding of the high expectations we set for learning and behaviour. It has been wonderful to see their positive attitudes and resilience.
In our first week, we worked together to create our class charter. As a class, we discussed what makes a safe, happy and successful classroom, and we all agreed to uphold the charter we created. This collaborative approach has already helped us to build a strong sense of community and shared responsibility.
This term, we are excited to begin our first IPC topic of the year, ‘Who am I?’ This unit will give the children opportunities to learn more about themselves and others, exploring identity, family and what makes us unique. It is the perfect way to start Year 2, as the children reflect on and celebrate their individuality.
In maths, we are keen to begin our Year 2 maths journey, starting with Place Value. The children will be revisiting counting in 2s, 5s and 10s to build their fluency, before moving on to the challenge of counting in 3s. These skills will form the foundation for their growing confidence with number work throughout the year.
In English, we continue our daily phonics lessons alongside exploring our engaging Year 2 Power of Reading texts. The class will begin with Handa’s Surprise and they can’t wait to explore the vibrant story, learn about new fruits, and discover the animals Handa meets along the way.
We are looking forward to an exciting and rewarding term ahead!
